Union Carbide Plant, Welland ON

The History - Union Carbide Plant

The Welland facility was a global leader in producing high-quality electrodes and graphite products for over 90 years. Spanning more than 110 buildings, it was a major industrial hub that, at its peak, employed approximately 2,000 people.

As demand for carbon and graphite surged, a state-of-the-art plant dedicated to large-diameter graphite production was constructed on the east side of the property. During this period, Union Carbide implemented advanced processes to reduce emissions and enhance environmental sustainability.

Strategically positioned with access to road, rail, and seaborne transportation routes, the site is also in close proximity to existing and planned battery and OEM manufacturing facilities in Canada and the U.S.
